Bedbugs RPG

Feed, grow, and don't get squished.

Premise

You are bedbugs in a seedy motel. You must feed, grow your colony, and survive.

Character Creation

Bedbugs, even when played by you, are simple. They need only one thing:

A name wouldn't hurt. Something dignified like Charles.

Gameplay

The GM will describe the situation you've found yourself in, and you can, in turn describe what you're doing in terms of 3 basic actions.

Moving is about the journey your bedbug takes to a better place for feeding, breeding, relaxing or anything else. Feeding gains you blood, but you're helpless while you do. Breeding adds to your Progeny number, but consumes the blood you stored.

Each time you successfully breed, add 1 to your progeny score for each blood you have.

There are many perils for bedbugs, so when you face a challenge, roll a d6 under your progeny number to survive. If you fail, take one off your progeny number and lose all blood. If your progeny score goes negative, you're dead.

Running the Game

As GM you will be rolling on a table to help figure out what happens in the motel at night. The bedbugs will then, in turn, describe how they are handling things. The core actions of moving, feeding, and breeding, represent the end of a turn.

It will help to keep rough track of where each bedbug is, locations are:

While the core game is built around turns and actions, introduce other parasites, environmental challenges, etc.

  1. Nothing happens
  2. Scratch a body part (Select bedbug at random)
  3. Another host joins the bed
  4. Light shines (If detected they shower and everyone loses 1 progeny)
  5. Host spills a drink on themselves (select location at random)
  6. Morning (Round is over)

Host Anomalies

  1. Anemic - Need to feed twice
  2. High Blood Pressure - Feed is instantaneous
  3. High cholesterol - Can react when feeding
  4. Alopecia - Breeding isn't possible
  5. Hairy - Extra progeny
  6. Normal person
